Congregation Etz Chaim
Congregation Etz Chaim, founded in 1975, was the first synagogue in Cobb County. Today, it is the only Conservative shul in the county, serving over 700 families many of which are multi-generational.
Congregation Etz Chaim operates a five-day-a-week preschool and a two-day-a-week religious school. In addition, Lilmode, our Adult Education program, features prominent educators from local colleges and universities, including Emory, as well as nationally-recognized scholars who visit at least twice yearly for weekends of study and enlightenment. Morning and evening services are conducted daily and Shabbat morning services are followed by a community Kiddush. We are fortunate to have an active Sisterhood, Men’s Club, Senior Citizens group, and three Youth Groups.
The founding members of the synagogue are today our seniors. Along with hundreds of new families who have joined over the years, this once rapidly growing community has reached a level of sustained membership with marginal growth. Due to the financial situation of many and our response to their need, the financial resources of Etz Chaim have been stretched and the cost of operations continues to escalate. Basic income from dues and fees remains a constant at best. As we look to our future, it becomes apparent that an alternate source of funding will be necessary in order to continue providing the varied and high quality programs and services our community has come to expect and cherish from this congregation. For these reasons we are actively asking our community members to consider creating a Jewish Legacy by naming Congregation Etz Chaim in their wills or establishing endowments that will fund programs that are close totheir hearts.
The time to establish these legacy plans is NOW. While we are vibrant, enjoying life and the many resources our community has to offer. Making a bequest, and advising your children of how important establishing a Jewish Legacy is to you, helps to set an example for future generations. It also ensures your memory is preserved so your children, great-grandchildren and beyond will recognize the importance you placed on giving Tzedekah, to your Judaism and your community.
