Congregation Beth Shalom
Congregation Beth Shalom is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue serving northeast Atlanta. Our vibrant congregation was founded in 1975 and continues to grow and thrive through meaningful Jewish observance, learning, fellowship and service. Committed to the integration of Jewish tradition and modern life, Congregation Beth Shalom is central to meeting the religious and social needs of our congregants by providing:
- Religious Services that are warm, inclusive, and infused with ruach (spirit). Congregants regularly join the Rabbi on the bimah to lead prayer, read Torah and Haftorah, and even blow the shofar. Our sanctuary is inviting, accommodating and child and special needs-friendly.
- A Religious School that offers each child the opportunity to become an active participant in the Jewish community through understanding the rituals, customs, observances and ethical teachings of Judaism. We work in partnership with parents to create a foundation and love for lifelong Jewish learning and living with a core of Jewish knowledge and principals.
- A Jewish Community where continuous learning and involvement are promoted though adult education classes, speaker series, retreats, Israel trips and various holiday and social programs.
- An Alefbet Preschool that provides a stimulating environment specifically designed for early childhood development. In providing development and learning opportunities in a Jewish environment, we are instilling a positive self-image and Jewish identity combined with a love of school and excitement for learning.
- A Sisterhood and Men’s Club that strengthen and unite our synagogue with the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism and the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs. Their missions are to help their members understand and perpetuate Conservative Judaism in the home, synagogue and community and to reinforce their bonds with Israel and with Jews worldwide.
Two thousand years ago, an old man was asked why he was planting a tree, as he would never be able to enjoy its fruit. The old man understood that he had thrived because others had been forward-thinking before him, and so he responded, “Just as my ancestors planted before me, we must prepare for the generations to follow.”
We have all gained much from Congregation Beth Shalom and we want to insure that future generations will be supported in their faith, comforted in their struggle, and helped in every celebration of their Jewish lives. Each generation is responsible for shaping its connection to and interpretation of Jewish tradition. Congregation Beth Shalom strives to be a hub and catalyst for helping its members create a meaningful Jewish community, as well as a vibrant and vital Jewish future.
In order to position itself for future generations, Congregation Beth Shalom is embarking on a legacy initiative to secure needed financial resources. This comprehensive project seeks support for the congregation’s current needs beyond which current dues and voluntary contributions can sustain. The current challenge of meeting unexpected financial shortfalls has typically fallen on a select few. Conversely, a well funded endowment where all congregants participate, will instead contribute to these shared financial challenges. We seek to create a lasting and meaningful endowment which will help the congregation meet any unexpected challenges and address the changing demographics in the coming years.
At one time or another, we all reflect on how we would like to be remembered by our loved ones as well as what our influence will be on future generations. By including Congregation Beth Shalom in your estate plan, you will be securing your legacy as well as ensuring Jewish spirituality for generations to come.
