The Amit Program

In the Spring of 1995 a group of families came together to share their concerns over the lack of Jewish educational and experiential programming in the Atlanta metropolitan Jewish community for children with learning and/or developmental disabilities. A few months later, Jewish Educational Services opened the Special Needs Department. A part-time staff person was hired to begin the process of educating the community on the importance of opening the doors of Jewish education to all of our children.

A task force consisting of individuals who shared the dream of creating quality Jewish educational opportunities for all children was established. With the help of those dedicated individuals, that small Special Needs Department became The Amit Program. As good community stewards, Amit has grown methodically over the past 10 years to become a nationally-recognized program, providing services to children with disabilities, ages birth to 21 years, and their families. Our vision for all Jewish children to be fully welcomed into all aspects of our community continues to expand and mature. While we have created the infrastructure, established exceptional programs and services, and developed relationships within the community, there is more to be accomplished.

Today we offer the community a broad range of services, including:

  • School Opportunities
    • Amit Gar’inim School
    • Amit Learning Labs
    • Yad B’Yad Sunday School
  • Early Intervention Services
  • Professional Development through Amit University
  • Parent Education through the Taylor Family Speaker Series
  • Family Support
    • Amit Parent Virtual Network
    • Special Needs Coordination

The Amit Program has accomplished much in our first 10 years. With the support of our families and the community Amit will continue to grow our programs and expand our reach so that all of our children can grow into accomplished, caring, committed, Jewish adults.

We invite you to join us on our journey to a more inclusive future for all. Please consider making a bequest in your Will or including The Amit Program as a beneficiary of your Trust, IRA or Life Insurance Policy. You commitment today will ensure a Jewish education for all our children in the future.
